Interview with a James Ruse student:
1. What is it like studying at James Ruse? Are the teachers strict? Is there a lot of pressure? Do you have extra-curricular activities?
Studying at James Ruse is challenging and fun, mostly as the environment of James Ruse is an incredibly supportive one, with incredibly friendly students and encouraging teachers who always try to teach their students to the best of their ability. While some teachers at James Ruse may be strict, it is so that we learn to the best of our ability and reach our full potentials. James Ruse also offers countless extra-curricular activities such as Cadets, Duke of Edinburgh, Science Olympiad, Cooking Club, Badminton Club, Anime Club and many, many, many more.
2. What is your favourite thing about attending James Ruse?
My favourite thing about attending James Ruse is the people. The students and teachers at James Ruse are very inviting and supportive; comforting me when I fail and celebrating with me when I succeed. It is the people that elevate James Ruse from a good school to a great one.
3. What was your study schedule like leading up to the Selective Test?
Preparing for the Selective Test was an incredibly tiring ordeal. I studied for four hours per day on Maths, English and General Ability* by doing homework, extra worksheets and revising. I also went to Selective Test tutoring on the weekends.
*Note: The General Ability section has been changed to the Thinking Skills section
4. What is your number one study tip for students looking to do well in the Selective Test?
My number one study tip for students looking to do well in the Selective Test is to revise, revise and revise. Never feel like there is nothing to study anymore. If you have completed all your homework, you have to revise your homework and any other materials. Make sure you fully understand everything. After this, you can still revise by completing extra practice questions and tests.
